It is time to train for the prevention of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) knee injuries. I have seen many girls suffer ACL tears during practices and games. Women are more susceptible to ACL tears for a variety of reasons. They are discussed in detail in our section on The Female Athlete . The good news is, with advances in science, medicine and surgical practices this injury does not have to be career ending. An athlete can be back in competition within 8-12 months with the proper rehab and conditioning program. The article here on ACL injuries focuses on the anatomy of the knee, the movement of the knee and what happens when the ACL is torn, complete with great views of the soft tissue of the knee joint.

Have you ever gotten hurt and were unsure whether or not to see a doctor? Well, we can give you tips on When to Call a Doctor. Other great articles not to be missed in this section include: The female athlete triad, growth plate injuries and when to return to play after an ankle sprain.
