I would like to impress upon all you girls and women out there the importance of eating for improved performance. Make use of every tool available to gain the competitive edge on your opponent. Nutrition seems to be the last issue addressed in a female athletes overall conditioning program. Probably because most people say, “I know how to eat right,” when they really don’t. Here is how I respond to that saying. I usually have the athletes that I train write down everything they eat/drink etc. for a week. With the help of a registered dietitian/nutritionist we review the eating plan. In this consultation with a professional we can get a pretty good idea of the athletes eating habits and the modifications that need to be made. We want an athlete to feel good, feel energized and have stamina for intense practices and games. A balanced, well designed sports nutrition program with the proper vitamins can give you that little boost needed for improved performance.

Don’t miss the articles on calcium and iron needs and water, hyponatremia and dehydration. If you need more in-depth information on nutrition or would like to consult directly with a Dietitian, visit www.sensiblenutrition.com. Debra Wein, M.S. R.D., a nationally renowned Dietitian/Nutritionist, is co-owner of this Boston based nutrition center on-line. They offer on-line nutritional assessments. This is an individualized, private, confidential session on-line. Check it out.

We, at FAF, do not recommend dietary supplements or sell dietary supplements of any kind on this site, that includes protein powders. We will also refuse to train any female athlete who we know is using illegal performance enhancing drugs.
